SKEMA Business School hosts 42 event industry professionals

publié par admin le Mar 06 Juil, 2010 [16:47 UTC]
Between 27 June to 2 July, SKEMA Executive, the executive training centre for SKEMA Business School, became the venue for two specialised training sessions on meeting planning, delivered in conjunction with MPI (Meeting Professionals International).

42 meeting planners, conference centre and convention bureau specialists gathered to work towards the CMM (Certification in Meeting Management) and the GCMBEII (Global Certificate in Meetings and Business Events II) qualifications, two widely recognised event industry certifications. The programmes were the first of a series to be delivered at SKEMA, one of MPI’s Global Training Centres.

The profile was truly varied and international. Trainees came from France, but also Italy, Spain, Germany, Poland, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Russia and even from the United States. Corporate meeting planners from Schlumberger, Bayer Health Care and Amway among others worked alongside representatives from event organisers and Destination Management Companies, such as MCI, GL Events and Grass Roots, international associations, convention bureaux (Poland, Berlin, Florence, Manchester) and non-governmental organisations (Organization of American States).

Attendees learnt from experienced industry speakers who were flown in from the United States as well as from different European locations. Participants from both programmes were able to network during two evening social events, hosted by SKEMA Business School and the Radisson Blue hotel in Nice, respectively.

"As trainers, we were very impressed by our participants’ willingness to work so very hard. They were exceedingly disciplined but also happy to share experiences in class and build their professional network during break time", says Mady Keup, Accredited MPI Trainer and Course Director of the MSc in Events and Meetings Management at SKEMA Business School. “SKEMA is extremely happy to have been able to host these highly professional specialists in our Executive Centre.”

SKEMA Professor on Tourism and Sustainaility International Expert Panel

publié par admin le Jeu 18 Fév, 2010 [00:44 UTC]
A group of international tourism experts provide advice on the Dublin Institute of Technology ACHIEV Project. Frederic Dimanche from SKEMA Business School is one of those academics and industry representatives with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences in the tourism industry that contribute to the research project.

The Tourism Research Centre in the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) started a three-year pilot project, using its recently developed tourism destination management tool - the DIT-ACHIEV Model. The research is jointly funded by the Environmental Protection Agency (Irish government agency) and Fáilte Ireland (National tourism organization) under the National Development Plan (NDP). It is funded under the NDP's Science, Technology, Research & Innovation for the Environment (STRIVE) Programme 2007 - 2013.

The objective of the research project was to devise and apply a set of sustainable tourism indicators to any tourism destination in Ireland. The indicators were designed to facilitate government agencies and tourism business managers in making more informed decisions about the future development of tourism in a particular destination. Based on internationally recognised definitions of indicators, the project developed in a set of sustainable tourism indicators known as 'the DIT-ACHIEV Model of Sustainable Tourism Management'.

This model focuses on six 'fields of interests':
  • Administration,
  • Community,
  • Heritage,
  • Infrastructure,
  • Enterprise,
  • Visitor.

Each field of interest encompasses the three pillars of sustainability (environment, economy and society).

To read more about this innovative project, consult http://www.dit.ie/faculties/tourism/trc/achiev/achievmodel/
